Lars in Sweden purchased a 505 panel kit some years ago and recently purchased another set with 2 additional panels.
We received this email from him a couple of days ago showing us how he used them.

Hi Rob,

I am sending my new-year greetings! Perhaps a Little late since you are two Days into the new year, but anyhow. I take the opportunity to inform on two Projects.

First project .................A perfect fit

The first one is several years old, but renewed as a new TV set. As the set is 4K resolution it now meet the clarity of the panel speakers. So in both respects, it is a perfect fit.

The panels have a narrow hinge and are permanently mounted to the TV set edge with double side tape. Panels are driven by a stereo 25W digital amp and corrected over it’s full range from 250Hz upwards.

Beneath the TV set is a small sub located which of course is also frequency corrected.

First impression of the sound is its both soft and detailed timbre and the wide frequency range.

This is clearly a one or two man show since the panels are beaming slightly, however, it comes quite natural for the viewer to sit in front of the screen.

Sublime timbre

The target  of this full-range speaker is one person with intensive attention. Sitting distance is optimal at 1-1,5m. At this distance the two stacked panels acts as a line source from 500Hz and upwards. This effect means two things, the listener sits in the nearfield range where the Power response masks the room response. Also, the low-midrange region is proportionally more powerful for this relative small speaker Panel.

The panels is aimed directly to the listener to avoid beaming.

For the  bass a closed box (infinite baffle), where the woofer element is directed backwards to the wall. This location near the wall increase the Allison effect there the low range is increased 6dB for each near surface (wall and floor), 12dB in total. The Power response is the tamed by the DSP to a smooth frequency response.

The panels are framed with profiles taken from the old Final Audio ELS speaker. Each panel is driven by a Gainclone mono amplifier.

The woofers are made of massive oak, glued together and surface is treated with bee’s wax. Each woofer is powered by a 100W digital car amplifier

Below the panels is the driver Electronics located as well as all electronics.

The DSP from MiniDSP resides in it’s own box with a R2R Dac from Soekris.dk.

Sound is sublime and full with reasonable Dynamics for smaller acoustic ensembles

Best regards,

Lars
