Acorn Full DIY Kit

Includes everything (except enclosure, work surface and hand tools!) to build a pair of Acorn electrostatic speakers.

This involves soldering a few surface mount resistors to each stator, not hundreds, as in the ESL IV!. Good soldering skills are still necessary.

All components are supplied including solder paste for the SMD’s and a tension tool for the diaphragms.

Recommended work surface for tensioning diaphragms is a smooth sheet of glass (e.g. a 900 x 700 sheet of pool fence glass)

Customers frequently ask about tensioning the diaphragms. Over the past 20 years we have developed a technique to tension the film that does not rely on time wasting tensioning frames. Our method is simple and quick and gives reliable, repeatable results. This is not a heat shrink method, which can have some unpredictable results.  This is fully explained in the construction manual.

The speaker can be operated in Bi- and Tri-Amp modes.  However, we strongly recommend using it as a passive speaker in the first instance after construction.
